Just spent the most wonderful few days down in the Carmargue in the South of France with the wonderful creatures. With the help of some very talented ‘Gardians’ (which seems like it’s missing a U but apparently not) who look after these magnificent horses, I managed to get a few images I’m very pleased with.
To be honest just being around them is reward enough, but it’s always nice to get some images that move me, and I hope you too.
There are so many variables and moving parts to line up when shooting horses. The weather and light are just the luck of the draw, as is the wind direction and strength. It’s always easy to say the light wasn’t quite right or the wind was in the wrong direction, or blowing too hard or too soft. You just have to work with what you get (as always), however there were a couple of moments on one or two of the shoots when everything just fell together, a rare thing indeed.
Even in the most perfect conditions you’re still working with a chaotically random (if that isn’t too tautological) bunch of moving parts, often what looks like the calmest and most static of moments may only last for a fraction of a second, and you have to be ready to catch it.
I could happily spend many more hours with these gorgeous animals, but the brief time we spent together is something I will cherish for a very long time.
