Equus, a French Stallion and Fine Art Print by Tim Booth

There are moments, fleeting and rare, when an animal gives you a glimpse into something ancient — a spark of instinct, power, and grace fused into form. Equus is one of those moments.

Shot in the South of France as part of a fine art photography series focused on stallions, this image captures a brief pause in the energy of a powerful horse. The arched neck, the bowed head, the quiet in the eye — all of it speaks to the wild dignity these creatures still hold, even in our domesticated world.

Photographing horses like this is never predictable. It’s a dance between patience, respect, and split-second timing. What I’m always looking for isn’t just the animal, but the character behind the muscle — the sense of self that shines through. In this image, I saw both strength and humility, something that felt deeply classical.

Prints of Equus are available through my website, part of a broader collection that explores the form and spirit of the horse in motion and stillness.
