Digital
imaging, is a huge and ever expanding medium. It comprises everything from
digital manipulation and digital enhancement to digital photography and digital
printing.
Its
a very contentious area and under constant debate between the ardent "pro's",
the ardent "anti's" and the rather mushy "hmmm we'll wait and
see's". Whatever your view, digital is here to stay and has a very valuable
commercial place in the market.
Though
I am very pro Digital per se, I would like to see the day when images that have
been digitally manipulated are marked as such. A small sign like the infinity
sign or copyright sign. People on the whole aren't stupid, but I feel that much
of the time pictures can be manipultaed in such a way as to be misleading and
whilst that's partially the point, it's not always appropriate -There's a big
difference between digital enhancement and digital manipulation.
My
digital work is primarily done for advertising agencies and picture library
stock. I tend to keep my black and white work traditional because I prefer the
feel of it - like the difference between vinyl and CD. CD's are a bit too sanitised
for some music, as is digital for the way I shoot my black and white.
